Hatmill has donated £24,000 to six deserving charities, chosen by the team.

In the fifth of our blogs shining a spotlight on the charities we support, Karl-Eric Devaux, a consultant at Hatmill shares more about the charity he put forward: Motor Neurone Disease Association. Karl-Eric nominated the charity because of all the amazing work the late Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield have done to increase awareness of the plight of MND sufferers.

The Motor Neurone Disease Association focuses on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by MND.

MND is the short term for motor neurone disease, which affects the nerves known as motor neurones. These nerves are found in the brain and spinal cord and they help tell your muscles what to do.

MND is life-shortening and there is no cure. Although the disease will progress, symptoms can be managed to help achieve the best possible quality of life.

Today (21 June) is World Motor Neurone Disease Day. The date is selected for the reason that it marks a solstice seen by many as a turning point in the year and the start of a new season of hope in the search for the cause, treatment and cure of MND.

To harness the hope within the MND community to speed up progress towards a world free from MND, the MND Association has committed to five Promises.  These Promises give the MND Association renewed focus to work faster and fight harder to strive for better. Hatmill’s donation will support these promises.

  • Promise 1: MND is treatable and ultimately curable
  • Promise 2: Everyone gets the care they need when they need it
  • Promise 3: Every day with MND counts
  • Promise 4: You are heard
  • Promise 5: No one faces MND alone

The six charities were put forward by team members and individuals voted as to which ones they wanted to support. The unanimous team decision was to support the charities below:
