Joe Brown

I joined Hatmill in 2023 with over 7 years of experience working in the logistics industry. I started out working on in-house warehouse and transport operations, before then moving into 3PL solution design across multiple sectors including rail, automotive, aerospace, technology, healthcare and utilities. Before joining Hatmill, I headed decarbonisation of final mile delivery at one of the UK’s largest parcel carriers.

Driven to produce innovative solutions that deliver tangible benefits for our clients and their customers, whilst always being mindful of how we can implement solutions with the lowest impact on our environment.

Having gained a degree in Geography and Masters in Renewable Energy from the University of Hull, I joined Unipart’s logistics graduate scheme in their Rail division. During my 2-year graduate scheme, I gained hands-on experience of warehouse and transport operations in a highly regulated sector. Additionally, I was a member of a project team that implemented a new 3PL warehouse and transport network for a utilities provider. After completing the graduate scheme, I spent 18 months as their Transport Development Manager, responsible for continuous improvement of the transport network, delivering £122k pa savings across the fleet.

In 2019 I joined the Solution Design team within Unipart Logistics where I spent 3 years as their primary transport solution design manager. I worked on 3PL tenders for a variety of clients and led the transport solution design. Evaluating the needs of customers through interpretation of data and understanding requirements, I aimed to deliver the most optimal solution.

In 2022 I joined Evri to lead on the decarbonisation of final mile delivery strategy. I worked closely with the ESG team to realise the ambition of being a net zero business by 2035. The principal decarbonisation project was to transition to using e-Cargo bikes to deliver parcels in densely populated urban areas. Through a mixture of partnering with contractors and setting up a dedicated cargo bike delivery unit in South London, we were able to deliver over 250k parcels using them in the first year of operations.

Evaluating the needs of customers through interpretation of data and understanding requirements, I aim to deliver the most optimal solution.

By improving their demand forecast, we helped one client save £3m in agency staffing costs (that’s an 18% reduction).
