Hatmill shines a spotlight on Martin House
Supporting families across Yorkshire
To mark World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, we’re shining a spotlight on Martin House Children’s Hospice, one of Hatmill’s chosen charities for 2026/27.
Martin House has received a share of the 1% of our annual profits Hatmill donates to charitable causes.
Helping families make the most of precious time together
Martin House supports babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, as well as their families, across West, North and East Yorkshire.
The charity’s work extends far beyond the hospice itself. Its services include specialist care, respite support, antenatal and neonatal care, family support and bereavement services.
By providing expert and compassionate care, Martin House gives families opportunities to spend quality time together while receiving the practical and emotional support they need.
Supporting an important local charity
Our relationship with Martin House began when the charity approached Hatmill and was introduced to our CEO, Simon Dixon.
Hearing more about its work and the difference it makes for families across Yorkshire made Martin House a natural organisation for Hatmill to support.
Seeing its work firsthand
To mark our donation, Hatmill colleagues Fiona Macpherson, Josh Mannix and Will Thomson recently visited Martin House to present the cheque to Emily Wilkinson, Partnerships Development Manager, and meet members of the wider team.
Emily expressed her appreciation:
“Thank you to Hatmill for helping Martin House Children’s Hospice continue to be there for more families when they need us most. Every year, we care for more than 550 children and young people with serious and complex health needs, and all our services are available completely free of charge. It costs around £13 million a year to provide this specialist care, and the majority is funded by generous donations such as this.”
During a tour of the hospice, Fiona, Josh and Will learnt more about the care Martin House provides and saw the results of THE BUILD, its recently completed £21.9 million redevelopment.
The transformation includes a new children’s wing, refurbished teenage wing, hydrotherapy pool, immersive sensory room, recording studio, enhanced clinical spaces and a new Education Centre.
What stood out was the thought behind every part of the redevelopment. Children, teenagers and their families helped shape many of the spaces to make sure they are welcoming, homely and suited to their needs.
One particularly memorable example was the Love Island villa-inspired outdoor courtyard in the teenage wing, an idea that came directly from teenagers supported by the hospice.
The visit brought home the importance of Martin House’s work and the difference it makes to children, young people and their families across Yorkshire.
