Hatmill’s net zero strategy
Together, we can create a net zero world
You’ve all read, heard, or talked about climate change and the impact it’s having on our world and society. Change and action is needed now if we are to make a positive difference in the future. We must move to a low-carbon world as quickly as possible and governments, corporations, cities, regions and individuals, must all play their part. To this end, the UK has set a legally binding net zero carbon goal along with other countries, Local Authorities, cities and institutions.
With the spotlight on sustainability issues, people are now looking to organisations to help make a difference. At Hatmill we are committed to creating a more sustainable world and to help us on our net zero journey we’ve joined forces with Flotilla, who provide end to end climate reduction services via its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) platform. We now have a robust understanding of our carbon footprint and what actions we need to take to mitigate it. We have set Science Based Targets, and our aim is to be net zero by 2039. If you’d like to find out more, please speak to Aaron Thomas.
Reaching net zero doesn’t happen overnight, it’s a journey that takes some time and there are multiple steps along the way. Working with Flotilla we collected data that has enabled us to produce actionable, evidence-driven insight at both high and granular levels.
Emissions at Hatmill
We’re unusual at Hatmill in that we don’t have offices. Our team either work from client sites or from home so that we can operate the lowest cost to serve and pass on the savings to our clients. So, our lack of ‘bricks and mortar’ means that Hatmill emits no Scope 1 or Scope 2 emissions (emissions directly from the company such as power and electric required for office buildings) and our company owned vehicles are all electric.
To continue our progress to achieving net zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.
We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 260 tCO2e by 2027. This is from a baseline year 2023 of 338 tCO2e. This is a reduction of 23%. We further commit to a 40% reduction by 2030 to 202 tCO2e in line with Science Based Targets.
Simon Dixon, Founder and CEO of Hatmill said:
“Hatmill’s new sustainability strategy provides a strong, engaging and unified sustainability vision; a great springboard for developing further targets as we begin to report on an annual basis, measuring our progress and sharing our success. The report is a momentous step forward for us and we are excited to get going. Thanks to everyone for sharing their ideas for carbon reduction schemes. As an employee-owned business, everyone at Hatmill has a part to play in achieving our ambitious net zero goal”.
