I help organisations understand complex transport problems and make better decisions. My work focuses on bringing clarity to situations where data is incomplete, stakeholders disagree, and the causes of poor performance aren’t immediately apparent.
Transport Strategy & Risk Advisor
Transport sneezes because something else is making it ill.
Leaders get very worried when they notice rising costs, poor service, and compliance issues in their transport operations. Usually, those things are just symptoms of the actual causes: incomplete data, conflicting information, poor communication, or processes that are no longer appropriate.
My role is to help organisations see what is really happening in their transport operation because when we identify where control is being lost, we can develop practical solutions that improve performance.
I am at my best when the data is incomplete, conflicting or doesn’t yet exist.
Many of the most challenging transport projects begin with uncertainty. When there isn’t a single version of the truth, it is impossible to make good decisions, so when systems, data and people all tell different stories, something has already gone wrong. I combine my operations experience with a sympathetic approach to stakeholder engagement and a structured analytical process to bring clarity to transport operations and help organisations make the right choices.
I joined Hatmill in 2020, having worked in general, events, and waste haulage, and since then I’ve worked on projects ranging from strategic network design to operational reviews, and from transport procurement to technology implementation and compliance improvement. My clients come from retail, healthcare, manufacturing and distribution.
My work has included:
- Identifying transport network changes worth £14.5 million over five years.
- Supporting projects that delivered approximately £10 million of transport cost improvements.
- Implementing transport technology solutions that removed a £200,000 per week stock visibility risk while identifying approximately £2 million of annual savings.
- Supporting the design and planning of nationally significant logistics operations, including the NHS Covid-19 vaccination programme.
I specialise in transport operations and strategy. Where transport challenges overlap with warehousing, inventory, automation or wider supply chain design, I work closely with Hatmill colleagues to ensure clients receive the right expertise and a solution that works across the wider business.
At Hatmill, we help organisations simplify complexity and deliver meaningful operational improvement. My focus is helping clients understand their transport operation well enough to make better decisions with confidence.
Transport has the exceptional habit of exposing problems that are hiding elsewhere. My job is to help organisations understand what the problem is really telling them.
