On time, or not, that is the question
In many ways, logistics is like a theatre show, particularly when we think about operational and transport planning. Paddy MacBrant explains why.
I joined Hatmill in 2022, following 10 years in contract logistics working in a variety of operational and development roles. Working with clients spanning consumer, industrial, manufacturing and retail has given me a broad insight into supply chains across different sectors.
My industry experience comes from working with the global leader in contract logistics, DHL Supply Chain. Throughout my time with DHL, I had the opportunity to work with several blue-chip clients including Boots, British Gas, Caterpillar, Eaton, Marks & Spencer, Network Rail, RWC and 3M. After successfully completing the DHL graduate programme, I continued to gain experience within operations and quickly progressed to become an Operations Manager. My time in operations management has provided me with a sound understanding of the full operational spectrum, from Inbound to Reverse Logistics. My later experience with DHL was in development and improvement roles which allowed me to build upon my operational base and use my experience to innovate the warehouse environment.
My key projects within these roles included:
1) Implementing an operational and cultural change programme,
2) Leading a radical defect reduction programme,
3) Revenue generation through the development of multi-user storage and the introduction of micro contracts,
4) Operational redesign from concept to implementation,
5) Reverse logistics lead time reduction and streamlining.
