International Women’s Day 2024: Why we’re really passionate about inclusion at Hatmill
How we’re really passionate about inclusion at Hatmill
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is Inclusion, something we’re really passionate about at Hatmill.
But don’t just take our word for it. We’ve been voted #1 Best Workplaces™ 2023 (Small) in the UK by Great Place to Work. 100% of employees at Hatmill say it is a great place to work*, compared to 54% of employees at a typical company.
This can be attributed to our inclusive nature, from our flexible, work from anywhere policies and employee ownership to our non-hierarchical structure. and that balance is important to us.
Generation Logistics
27% of our team is female compared to the industry average of 21%. However we want to go further and have a number of initiatives on the go to increase our female talent. Our support of Generation Logistics is all about inspiring the next generation, and particularly women, to consider a career in logistics given the flexible nature of the industry and the benefits it provides.
A sector as diverse as logistics needs a diverse workforce. All ages, all backgrounds, all skill sets where your skills will be developed, and where your ambitions can be realised. At Hatmill, we try to replicate this by hiring people from diverse backgrounds to reflect the clients we serve.
Jessica Burns, recently celebrated her one year anniversary at Hatmill. She said:
“Joining Hatmill has been more than just a career move—it’s been a journey of growth and support. Our company culture is all about being welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable, and I’ve experienced it firsthand. From day one, the team has been there to lend a hand, offer guidance, and empower me to succeed.”
“Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a variety of brilliant clients and tackle meaningful projects. My proudest achievement is helping a client smoothly transition their operation to a new 3PL with minimal disruption!”
Employee-ownership
Our unique flat structure and employee ownership culture means our people are empowered to deliver long term success for our clients. Creating a great place to work is fundamental to our principles. Employee ownership secures our distinct entrepreneurial culture – everyone has a stake and is engaged and involved in driving the business.
Flexible working
At Hatmill, you can work where you want, when you want. Something that sets us apart from our competitors and according to our team, is a big attraction for an inclusive working environment.
We get that people have a life outside of work, whether that is family and caring responsibilities, training for triathlons or just getting quality down-time. Ensuring that balance is important to us.
Finalists at the Every Woman in Transport and Logistics Awards
Our very own Hazel Beasley and Naomi Harryman-Hassan were recently both finalists in the Everywoman awards.
Everywoman connects women, businesses and organisations all over the world, using a powerful combination of inspiring, informative and educational content. The awards celebrate the vital contribution women make to transport and logistics showcasing progression, accomplishments and increasing avenues of opportunity within a traditionally male-dominated industry.
Women still only account for 21% of the 1.7 million people working in transport and logistics and contributed £214 billion to the UK economy in 2020*. Research shows that diverse teams are better positioned to unlock innovation and drive growth. The everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards plays an important role in highlighting success stories, shifting perceptions and creating role models to inspire future female talent. We’re proud of Hazel and Helen being recognised in these prestigious awards and being role models in the industry.
