Tom Richardson

I joined Hatmill after 9 years in the logistics and supply chain industry, working for 3PLs across a range of different customers, such as Amazon, Samsung and Screwfix. I specialise in Continuous Improvement, Project Management and Operational Development, with a focus on delivering change, improvement, and value for clients.

Broad range of experience problem solving, developing, and leading high-quality operational improvements.

After 9 years of experience in the logistics and supply chain industry I joined Hatmill in 2023 to continue to deliver change, transformation, savings, and improvements to businesses.

My career has spanned roles working in Continuous Improvement, Project Management and Operational Development, and I’ve worked with large ecommerce customers such as Amazon and Screwfix whilst working for 3PLs such as Wincanton, Yusen Logistics and Norbert Dentressangle (now GXO.) This has enabled me to gain a broad perspective of the industry and challenges different customers face.

For my most recent role I was based at a heavily automated Screwfix ecommerce site, where I oversaw all the site development, managing a programme of projects such as complex WMS changes, automation enhancements and process optimisations.

Some of my career highlights have been:

  • Leading CI and Operational Development Cost Saving projects, with yearly savings ranging from £500k to £1m per year
  • Designed and implemented a solution that enabled the customer to grow their online international capacity from 3,000 orders per week to 30,000, whilst delivering cost savings of over £500k per year
  • Completed detailed data analysis, layout, cost and resource modeling, problem solving and solution identification for a customer capacity challenge, which then directly led to the setup of a remote c. 130k sq. ft site within 3 months. This enabled the customer to achieve sales growth of over 20%
  • Successfully managing a range of projects, such warehouse automation improvements, a site closure, moving a high value contract into a new warehouse, a reverse logistics start up and implementing new final mile carrier services
