Freddie Swift

I joined Hatmill in 2022, after foundational years within a large global 3PL, which built to a senior operational role within an omni-channel retail setting. I’ve also gained experience within the aviation and healthcare sectors. My career highlight (to date) has been as part of the leadership team that delivered the successful start-up of a 400sqft fully automated site.

Proven experience of developing skills across multiple sectors, in operational and transport roles.

My industry experience originally came with DHL Supply Chain, before moving to URBN UK Ltd. in 2015. My time at DHL gave me a great base to develop skills across multiple sectors, in operational and transport roles. Moving to URBN initially involved taking the lead on day-to-day operations, across a semi-automated, dual-building site. Through this time, growth outstripped capacity, which led to the decision of the business investing in a new, fully automated fulfilment centre. I played an integral role in navigating the (original) site closure, migration, then subsequent automation start-up (during COVID).

The journey of implementing and optimising new automation within a high-volume, JIT operation has taught me a great deal over the last 3 year, that I hope to play forward and further leverage, to best support our future partners.

  • Led the development and execution of 9 interdependent migration plans, across 3 sites, to successfully deliver the transition of 1.5 million units (whilst navigating COVID restrictions).
  • Led the flow room through start up, learning valuable lessons in the importance of developing a robust flow room strategy through automation start ups.
  • Led the implementation of a site refit, delivering a +220% growth in stockholding capacity and +120% improvement in throughput capacity for digital building.
  • Led the site review on furniture capacity and future volumes, which was presented to senior management, delivering a budget saving of £500K.

In joining Hatmill, I’m excited to support our clients to build the supply chains of the future, whilst continuing to learn from others in our rapidly evolving industry.

By improving their demand forecast, we helped one client save £3m in agency staffing costs (that’s an 18% reduction).
