Ashley Walker

I joined Hatmill in 2023 as part of the first graduate scheme. I graduated university as a mature student with a degree in business management, with employment experience at a large pharmaceutical company.

Prior to university, I worked at Royal Mail for eight years maintaining and building relationships with several multi-million pound business customers.

I join Hatmill with several years experience in customer relationship management and look to deliver operational excellence for customers.

I started my career at Royal Mail working primarily in communications and data analytics. I was responsible for a portfolio of 14 business customers with a combined spend in excess of £40 million, where I would build and maintain the working relationship and provide support where necessary. This included forecasting for peak periods and working with internal stakeholders to resolve transportation issues due to unexpected demand. I transferred to a data analysis project looking to reduce fraudulent behaviour among business customers. This involved collaboration with multiple stakeholders to spot anomalies and identify companies displaying fraudulent behavior, with the first year saving an estimated £6 million in revenue.

Seeking a new challenge, I enrolled at university to study business management where I got a better understanding of challenges in business environments. I chose modules focusing on strategy, project management and Supply Chain and Operations as I wanted to better understand how businesses operate. Whilst at university, I completed a one year industrial placement at a pharmaceutical company, working within their external supply chain team. I learned aspects of the S&OP process and my main deliverable was to create a new way of working to improve efficiencies and workflows with a key supplier. This was possible through stakeholder management and effective communication.

When looking at graduate schemes, I knew I wanted to work in a consultancy due to my interest in problem solving. What set Hatmill apart from other consultancies was their unique teal culture and implementation of projects instead of just the consultancy work. Having met most of the team, I am excited to learn from experts in their field, working to deliver results for clients.

By improving their demand forecast, we helped one client save £3m in agency staffing costs (that’s an 18% reduction).
